9.8 -Z <br />If successful, the District will acquire property in the annexed area from willing sellers only. <br />This proposal does not include any provision for a tax or assessment in the area to be <br />annexed. The District may, in the future, place a measure before the voters or property <br />owners in the annexed area asking them to approve a tax or assessment to contribute to <br />funding of the District's activities. Property owners within the District's current boundaries pay <br />a District assessment of 1.7 -cents per one - hundred dollars of assessed value of their <br />properties, amounting to approximately $10 million this fiscal year. <br />As the District prepares to present its proposal to the San Mateo County Local Agency <br />Formation Commission (LAFCO), it desires to obtain the endorsements of cities currently <br />within its boundaries. <br />Council members Pierce and Howard recommend that the full Council adopt this resolution <br />and offer its support for the District's proposal, as the most viable and workable program to <br />address the need for ongoing protection of the San Mateo County coast, and preservation of <br />the agricultural and rural character of the coastal region. <br />Alternative <br />1.
