�. / -F/ REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager June 9, 2003 Subject Agreement between Redwood City 2020 through its fiscal agent the City of Redwood City and the Redwood City School District in support of the City of Redwood City Community Schools Project Recommendation Authorize the City Manager to Execute the Agreement between Redwood City 2020 (RC 2020), through its fiscal agent the City of Redwood City, and the Redwood City School District for fiscal year 2002/2003. Background The City of Redwood City in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the Sequoia Union High School District and the County of San Mateo formed Redwood City 2000 in 1995. In 2000, the organization's name was changed to RC 2020. The partners have been jointly funding RC 2020 since 1995, and the City of Redwood City acts as the fiscal agent for the collaborative. Given that Redwood City is the fiscal agent, this agreement will not impact City services. In the summer of 2002, the John W. Gardner Center agreed to become a funding partner and participate in the governance of the RC 2020 collaborative. The Gardner Centers participation includes the development of a community schools initiative in partnership with the Redwood City School District. Four District Schools have been identified to participate in the initiative. These schools include Taft, Fair Oaks, Hoover and Kennedy. These schools were identified because they have a Redwood City Family Center on site. With funding from the Gardner Center, the Redwood City School District through the Redwood City Family Centers will coordinate school and community participation in Community School planning and implementation, and ensure participation in the Gardner Center's Academy for Community Youth Development. Alternative Council may choose not to authorize the City Manager to execute this agreement.
