some compromises have been reached. It was suggested that one part of Bay Street
be annexed by Redwood City. Council was happy that Stanford has made an effort to
work with and engage the community. There were words of caution regarding the
Laboratory buildings. Dave Lenix, the architect, was present and commented on the
issue of lighting. One Council Member would like the Development Agreement to
specify the public access component. Another Council Member would like clarity so
that access to the green spaces is free and locked in. This Council Member would like
to have input regarding the design and phasing the benefits. This Council Member
would like to have the city and Stanford look into possible near term solutions regarding
impervious surFaces and flooding. It was encouraged that the use of bicycles be part of
the design and the considerations.
Vice Mayor Aguirre was pleased that some of the communities' concerns had been
taken into consideration. The community based benefits were discussed such as
physical education for kids and special areas of higher learning.
Public Comment:
Mr. Walsh addressed the Council requesting the studies that have been referred to
tonight. He also inquired about the traffic impacts.
Ms. Riordan explained that all these are under hot topics on the website and the
information wilt be added.
Mayor Ira said that he is looking forward to the Environment Impact Report and he has
toured the new buildings with Council Member Foust. He has seen firsthand that they
use open space well and he is looking forward to that here as well.
8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
Council Member Pierce reported on the scoping session that was held last Saturday for
the HSR (High Speed Rail) had about 100 people in attendance. The meeting here in
the Council Chambers was also very productive.
Council Member Foust mentioned a recent meeting of the Bay Area Council Institute
and how they are trying to be inclusive and see what could work for us.
9.
