Tree #1 is a front yard coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia with codominant mainstems
measuring 11.1 and 7.3 inches at 4.5 feet above grade (see map below in this report
for location). The tree is valued at $3,280 per the author's appraisal worksheet attached,
and can easily be retained and protected behind chain link tree protection zone (TPZ)
fencing erected at approximately 15 feet out from trunk.
This tree stands approximately 25 feet in height with a total canopy diameter of 30 feet.
Using scales from 0-100% each, it has a health rating of 75% and a structural rating of
75%, for an overall condition rating of 75% or "Good". This tree exhibits good live hvig
density and extension.
The tree's root system has expanded below the existing concrete drive apron and
sidewafk slabs, causing severe buckling and cracking. An arborist should be retained to
monitor demolition of these materials, and demolition should be performed using small
tools only (e.g. jackhammer).
B. Tree #2 is a front yard coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens} with codominant
mainstems measuring 18.0 and 14.0 inches at 4.5 feet above grade. The tree is
valuated at $4,050. It can be retained and protected using chain link fence at distances
as far as possible out from trunk.
The tree stands 55 feet in height with a total canopy spread of 25 feet. The tree rates out
with a health of 35% and a structure ot 45%, for an overall condition rating of 40% or
"Poor". It exhibits only poor to moderate live twig density and extension.
There does not appear to be significant imigation applied to this tree, so there is likely
significant soil moisture deficit ("drought stress") throughout the tree's root zone.
Irrigation during site plan development may boost vigor and increase this tree's overall
condition by 10 to 20 points.
The current open soil root zone area ranges in size from 8 to 15 feet radius around the
tree. The chain link TPZ should be erected near the proposed driveway and over the
proposed porch area. The fence can be moved closer to the tree just prior to starting the
porch work assumably at the end of project.
C. Tree #3 is a front yard Italian stone pine (Pinus pinea) measuring 21 inches at 4.5 feet
above grade. It is proposed to be removed due to its location in very close proximity to
proposed work. It is valuated at $3,190.
' This height is not the elevation which City of Redwood City prefers trees to be measured at. However,
for monetary appraisal, this is the correct hei ht to determine trunk cross sectional areas
3of14
Site Address: 448 Saint Francis Version: 08272010
Walter Levison O All Rights Reserved
Registered Member, American Sociery of Consulting Arborists and Member of the International Society of Arboriculture
Phone/Fax (650) 687-0990
