ORIGINAL
Attachment 1
GRANT AGREEMENT
REDWOOD CITY LIBRARY FOUNDATION
THIS ,GRANT AGREEMENT is made and entered into this day of
,2010, by and between the CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, a charter city and
municipal corporation of the State of California ( "Grantor "), and the REDWOOD CITY
LIBRARY FOUNDATION, a non - profit organization ( "Grantee ") (collectively, the "Parties "),
with reference to the following facts:
RECITALS
A. Grantor is a municipal corporation which owns and operates a four - library
system in the City of Redwood City.
B. Grantee is a non - profit entity established to achieve the goal of increasing
support for the City's library services, collections, and programs. Grantee provides
services and programming that complements and enhances library services provided by
the City.
C. Grantor received a $150,000 bequest in 1997 designated for the "library's
general use," and with interest, the funds have grown to $225,000.
D. Grantor desires to provide youth literacy services to the community,
including literacy programs for children and families, but due to budget constraints, the
City is not able to provide comprehensive youth literacy services and programming.
E. Grantee is prepared to provide youth literacy programming to serve general
library purposes, which secondarily benefits the City library. Grantee is uniquely situated
to provide this type of programming within City libraries, because of its current presence
in the City libraries, its familiarity with library programs, personnel, and procedures, and
the history of its relationship and engagement with the Redwood City community.
Grantee is particularly qualified to provide additional youth library services including
storytimes, stronger collaboration between schools and the library, and recruitment and
training of community volunteers.
F. Grantee has submitted a proposal to the Library Board and the City, and
has affirmed its willingness and ability to provide youth literacy programs. Upon the
terms and conditions described herein, Grantor is willing to provide $225,000.00 to fund
Grantee's provision of the services more particularly described in Exhibit A, which is
attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference.
ATTY /AGR/2010.120
103010
1
