� <br /> 6.1 E <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Ci Mana er <br /> December 6, 2010 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Agreement between the City of Redwood City as fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020 <br /> and the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County for fiscal year 2010-11. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement between the City of <br /> Redwood City, as fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020, and the Legal Aid Society of San <br /> Mateo County, in the amount of $81,000 for FY 2010-11. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> Redwood City 2020 has received a grant from The Grove Foundation to support the <br /> Linking Immigranfs to Benefits, Resources, and Education (LIBRE) Project. LIBRE will <br /> focus on improving the effectiveness of current efforts to link immigrants to safety net <br /> services through educational presentations, written material, and by providing legal <br /> services to those who encounter barriers to accessing safety net services to which they <br /> are entitled. <br /> Through this agreement, Redwood City 2020 will contract with the Legal Aid Sociery of <br /> San Mateo County to (1) participate as a member of the LIBRE Steering Committee and <br /> (2) provide legal education, educational materials and legal services related to <br /> immigrant rights for organizations and individuals participating in LIBRE. <br /> The Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, established in 1960, is a nonprofit <br /> organization that provides civil legal services to San Mateo County's low-income <br /> residents, serving over 2500 residents each year. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may elect not to authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Funding for the program has been granted by the Grove Foundation to cover the cost of <br /> this Agreement. No City funds wip be used for this effort. The City is serving as "pass <br /> through" to Redwood City 2020 for funds awarded; therefore this Agreement will not <br /> impact City services. <br />
