In <br /> addition, the employee may be required to undergo a medical <br /> examination at the City's expense to be performed by a doctor <br /> designated by the City, before the employee is permitted to return <br /> to work. <br /> Sick leave shall be defined as the non .job related absence from <br /> work due to illness, bodily injury, exposure to contagious disease, <br /> and caring of family members whose illness requires the worker's <br /> care. For the purposes of this section, immediate family means <br /> spouse, domestic partner, child, stepchild, or parent. <br /> 18.1.3 Charge for Sick Leave <br /> Charge for sick leave used shall be on the basis of one (1) hour for <br /> each hour used; provided, however, that sick leave shall be <br /> charged for only those hours when the employee was absent from <br /> work. <br /> 18.1.4 Sick Leave Accrual Cap <br /> In the event an employee has accumulated the maximum sick <br /> leave credits of the one thousand nine hundred twenty (1,920) <br /> hours and the employee becomes so severely ill that he /she <br /> exhausts his /her sick leave, the Human Resources Director may, <br /> upon written recommendation of the employee's department head, <br /> authorize additional sick leave to include any sick leave in excess of <br /> the one thousand nine hundred twenty (1,920) hour maximum <br /> which may have been lost due to the maximum limitation. Any <br /> such additional sick leave authorized by the Human Resources <br /> Director shall not exceed the number of sick leave hours the <br /> employee could accrue in a six (6) month period. <br /> 18.1.5 Credit for Unused Sick Leave <br /> 18.1.5.1 An employee may elect to receive compensation in <br /> lieu of sick leave credits for any calendar year (based <br /> on the preceding 26 pay periods) by requesting <br /> payment of unused sick leave in writing to the <br /> Director of Finance on or before December 1, of that <br /> year. Payment shall be made at twenty -five percent <br /> (25 %) of the value of the unused sick leave , or fifty <br /> percent (50 %) if no more than 24 hours have been <br /> used for the preceding 26 pay periods, at the salary <br /> for the year the payment is being made. The City <br /> will endeavor to make payment on the non - payroll <br /> Friday immediately following the first payroll Friday in <br /> January, however the payment will be made no later <br /> 32 <br /> Page 38 #15077 <br /> MUFF # 905 <br />
