6.1 A REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Cit Mana er January 24, 2011 j SUBJECT Agreement with The Professional Tree Care Company, A Division of Arboricultural � Specialties, Inc. of Berkeley, California for the 2010-2011 Comprehensive Street Tree Maintenance Agreement RECOMMENDATION Approve the 2010-2011 Agreement with The Professional Tree Care Company, A Division of Arboricultural Specialties, Inc. (Professional) in the amount of $200,000 and authorize the City Manager to execute up to finro (2) consecutive one-year extensions of the Agreement not to exceed $230,000 per year. BACKGROUND � The street tree maintenance contractor performs pruning, removals and replanting of city trees as directed by staff of the Public Works Services Department. The project has been publicly bid and a contractor has been hired for this purpose for the past several years. The contractor assists with storm response as needed to augment the City's two person tree maintenance crew. The previous Agreement with Professional and the four (4) extensions approved by the City Council expired in November of 2010. On I November 18, 2010, a Request for Proposal (RFP) was publicly advertised by the City ' Clerk's office in the City's newspaper of record and the proposal information was posted on the City's website. Four (4) proposals were received by the due date of Friday, December 10, 2010. Staff reviewed the proposals and the firm of Professional Tree Care Company was found to be responsive to the criteria contained in the RFP and their bid prices were the lowest of the proposals submitted. Staff has contracted with Professional Tree Care Company for tree maintenance services over the past five (5) years and they have performed their work to acceptable industry and City standards.
