Leveraged resources:
The employer group has been stable; covering the local grant match. The requested funds will
leverage 50% of the operating budget from other sources.
Safety:
Providing near door service for Redwood City employers and residents has provided increased
safety and security for the employees and residents. Without the shuttle, those utilizing transit
would be required to walk up to 4 /10ths of a mile from the nearest SamTrans bus stop.
Personal safety has further increased because a transit user is not required to walk the streets
of an empty business park after dark as a potential target of personal crime. Also, by
encouraging the use of transit, the commuters' mental health is typically improved as they do
not have the stress associated with driving in heavy traffic.
This last item is also a benefit to participating employers as there is an opportunity for reduced
absenteeism and increased worker productivity.
Effective use of funds:
The service is projected to utilize the following percentages of funds to cover operating
expenses for fiscal years 2010/2011 & 2011/2012:
Employer /City (local match): $ 90,400 46.2%
TFCA Grant: $ 7,500 3.8%
SMCTA Measure A: $ 97,900 50.0%
Total Revenue Projected: $195,800 100.0%
The Measure A funds are leveraging 50.0% of funding from other sources.
Alliance provides "in kind" management of the service including vendor oversight,
vendor /customer liaison, consortium management, finance, marketing, promotional materials
and grant oversight.
SMCTA Measure A - Local Shuttle Program Call for Projects Page 15 of 16
Application Document (March 31, 2010)
