04/28/03 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14527 <br />RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE PREVENTION OF ABUSE, <br />NEGLECT, AND ABANDONMENT OF SENIOR CITIZENS WITHIN <br />REDWOOD CITY. <br />WHEREAS, the State of California recognizes that senior citizens may be <br />subjected to physical abuse, neglect, or abandonment; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of California recognizes that most senior citizens who are <br />at the greatest risk of abuse, neglect, or abandonment by their families or caretakers <br />may suffer physical impairments and other poor health that places them in a dependent <br />and vulnerable position; and <br />WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo's Ombudsman and Adult Protective <br />Services programs are in place to assist in the prevention of abuse, neglect and <br />abandonment of senior citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, State law provides for local law enforcement to report known or <br />suspected cases of abuse; and <br />WHEREAS, Redwood City recognizes that it has a responsibility to protect and <br />assist senior citizens of Redwood City who are at risk and vulnerable; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the well -being of all of its citizens, <br />particularly senior citizens, is vital to the future of our City; and <br />WHEREAS, the residents of Redwood City's skilled nursing homes will benefit <br />from visits by Redwood City Police Officers on a regular basis, preferably once a <br />month, but no less than quarterly; and <br />F: Atty /Reso /Reso.1383 <br />040303 <br />
