RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO COMMIT THE CITY TO THE FINANCIAL AND LEGAL OBLIGATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH RECEIPT OF WATERSMART GRANT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WHEREAS, no major improvements have been made to the City's residential water meters in twenty years despite new technology, new residents, and changing water -use patterns; and WHEREAS, Public Works Services is committed to implementing a five -year meter replacement program that will use new technology to help reduce demands on the City's potable drinking water supply; and WHEREAS, Federal funds are available through the WaterSMART grant to further this goal, and water districts are eligible to apply for such funds; and WHEREAS, Public Works Services has completed an application to share the cost of the meter replacement program with the US Bureau of Reclamation; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has reviewed and supports the WaterSMART grant application for submission to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation by the Public Works Services Department; and WHEREAS, the Public Works Services Department has the ability to fund its portion of the proposed meter replacement project through available Water Enterprise funds and through an inter -loan transfer. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: 1. The City Manager or designee will work with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to meet established deadlines for entering into a cooperative agreement pertaining to the use of WaterSMART grant funds. 2. The City Manager is authorized to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for receipt of WaterSMART grant funds awarded to the City between the date of this resolution and June 30, 2012.
