Obviously, our city is also facing unprecedented difficult budget times. However, it is
well past time that the state faces the consequences of its years of gimmicks and temporary
budget fixes. Taking local funding — particularly funding that creates such a great number of jobs
and fuels economic growth — is imprudent, unconstitutional, and in violation of the public's will.
The City Council of Redwood City strongly encourages you to consider the constitutional and
economic implications of attempting to eliminate redevelopment. I'm sure that we can depend
on you to take a leadership role in finding solutions that will address the state's fiscal problems
while continuing to support redevelopment as a key to economic recovery and growth in our
local communities.
Sincerely,
Jeff Ira
Mayor
C: The Honorable Jerry Brown, Governor, State of Califomia
Dan Carrigg, Legislative Director, League of California Cities
