8.0 <br /> WHEREAS, with redevelopment being the second largest funder of affordable &llcf 1 , <br /> behind only the federal govemment, and responsible for over 98,000 units of affordable housing <br /> since 1993, its elimination will essentially destroy the development of affordable housing in <br /> Califomia; and <br /> WHEREAS, shutting down redevelopment agencies is a violation of multiple State and <br /> Federal constitutional provisions. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY that Redwood City formally opposes the Administration's proposal to abolish <br /> redevelopment in California and authorizes its Council and city staff to communicate its <br /> opposition to this proposal to the Govemor, the Legislature, business groups, and its <br /> community. <br /> ATTY/RESO/RESO.2107 REDEVELOPMENT <br /> 030111 <br /> 2 <br />
