6.1 A
Page 17
School (additional information on file). He acknowledged collaborators and partners that
included the School District, a PiloYs association and the Redwoad Shores Neighborhood
Association. He said this program would make a unique learning opportunity for the
children. Mr. Young sought Council support to this end.
Carol Ford also spoke in favor of the Parade of Planes and exp(ained the support from I
the School District, Airport and would appreciate support from the City Council.
Steve Elliott, Vice Chair of Economic Development for the Redwood City San Mateo
County Chamber of Commerce, spoke about upcoming events such as Good Morning
Redwood City, as well as Broadway by the Bay and the 47th Progress Seminar in
Monterey between April 16 thraugh 17, 2011. He noted that all this information is posted
online at http://www.redwoodcitychamber.com/.
David Bartoshuk, representing the Juventus Soccer Club, noted that last weekend they
had over 250 soccer teams in the Peninsula playing in about 30 venues. He noted that it
was a smooth event considering that 8,000 people attended the various games. Mr.
Bartoshuk said that the event came off without problems mentioning this is its fourth year.
Council Member Seybert added that this was a total success and a fabulous opportunity to
showcase this community and that people all over Northern Galifornia speak about
Redwood City and its parks. He said our Parks Recreation and Community Services is
supportive of these efforts and that is much appreciated.
Mike Bautista, with time ceded from Michelle Bautista, presented information (presentation
on file) about his belief that City staff lied on the R2 Zoning appeal and that the fairness of
the appeal process was not addressed by Council. He said the Council did not offer an
explanation for the denial of the appeal and he felt "shut out". Mr. Bautista commented on
staff's intentions and the prior City Manager. He questioned if there were secret meetings
in advance of the decision and opined that the community is owed an explanation.
City Attorney Thompson intervened and said that Mr. Bautista received due process and
there is on record two court cases by Mr. Bautista. In one case he lost one and the other
he voluntarily dismissed it. Ms. Thompson explained that the cases were about the
interpretation of the Zoning Code in terms of density and how these appiy to someone
else's property. She asserted that Mr. Bautista got due process and all these allegations
are part of this court case and she believes that this Council has modeled the way to
handle the outcome of either losing or winning, which is with graciousness and aplomb.
Camino Delay, a senior at Sequoia High School, reported on a study he did with a grant
from the Committee for Green Foothills (presentation on file). He specifically addressed
concerns about density levels with the Cargill development and he does not find this a
feasible project.
Council Member Gee wanted to confirm that the City Council is not at liberty to
comment on the accusations made by the prior speaker. Ms. Thompson confirmed that
statement.
JOINT CITY COUNCIUREDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD March 7, 2011
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 3
