03/21/2011 <br />EXHIBIT A <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />BUILDING OFFICIAL <br />DEFINITION <br />To plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the operations and activities of the Building <br />Division to ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal codes, regulations and <br />ordinances applicable to building construction and maintenance; and to do related work as <br />required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Direction is provided by the Department Director. <br />Responsibilities include direct and indirect supervision of professional, technical and <br />administrative support personnel. <br />EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES <br />1. Provide leadership, direct and participate in the development and implementation <br />of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; implement City and department goals, <br />objectives, policies, priorities, and foster in others a commitment to city values. <br />2. Prepare and administer building division budget in accordance with Council <br />priorities. <br />3. Manage, oversee, coordinate, review and participate in the plan review, building <br />inspection, and code enforcement activities associated with setting and ensuring <br />compliance with building standards, Federal and State laws, and City code <br />enforcement ordinances. <br />4. Perform the most difficult field inspections and plan checks and resolve building <br />inspection related problems as necessary. <br />5. Coordinate uniform enforcement and inspection methodologies with building <br />personnel; provide training on technical code related topics and operational <br />processes and procedures related to the City's development review and inspection <br />process. <br />6. Provide technical advice, information, and interpretations regarding the various <br />codes, laws, and regulations regarding building construction to city staff, <br />engineers, architects, contractors, and the general public. <br />Reso # 15101 <br />MUFF # 903 <br />
