The project was
awarded for a base bid of $779,427.60. The project is successfully completed in
accordance with the plans and specifications. One (1) change order for a credit of
$62,366.27 was issued. The final contract amount is $717,061.33, and 8.0% less than
the contract amount initially awarded. Construction started in October, 2010, and
concluded in February, 2Q11. The start of the project was delayed to minimize traffic
impact to Henry Ford Elementary Schoo!which is located on Massachusetts Avenue.
Change orders resulted from deleting Cordilleras Road from the project. Cordilleras
Road was deleted from this project to better coordinate with the rescheduled
construction of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's (SFPUC) Bay Division
Pipeline No. 5. Heavy construction traffic resulting from SFPUC's project damages the
roadway surface. Rather than risk excessive damage to a newly resurfaced roadway,
staff will include Cordillas Road in the next annual resurfacing project after heavy
construction in the area is completed.
This project resurfaced Massachusetts Avenue, Crompton Road, and streets bounded
by Jefferson Avenue to the north and west, Alameda de las Pulgas to the east, and
Dover Road to the south. Portions of Redwood Shores Parkway and Shoreway Road
between their intersection and U.S. 101 were also resurFaced.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and
public contracting code.
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funding for the work of this project was previously approved and appropriated
as State Prop 42, Street Pavement Management Program and Transportafion Fund
(Measure A), Street Pavement Management Program.
