RD-88-07 <br /> <br />- ORIGINAL <br /> RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A PREVAILING WAGE POLICY <br /> APPLICABLE TO CERTAIN PRIVATE PROJECTS RECEIVING <br /> ASSISTANCE FROM THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, under the California Community Redevelopment Law <br /> (CRL) the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Redwood City (the <br /> "Agency"), is reguired to provide for the payment of prevailing <br /> wages on any public works contract awarded by the Agency but most <br /> private projects are not subject to such reguirement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the legislative purpose of prevailing wage laws as <br /> stated by the courts is to obtain well gualffied, competent and <br /> efficient workers so that public facilities will be built to the <br /> same standard of quality normally found in the private sector; <br /> and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 33437 of the Health and Safety <br /> Code, the Agency deems it necessary to carry out the purposes of <br /> the CRL and the 1982 Redevelopment Plan of the City of Redwood <br /> City, that the structures that replace the blighted conditions <br /> that were found to exist in the Project Area be of as high a <br /> quality as is obtainable; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the payment of preva±ling wages can create a safer <br /> workplace by providing a h±gher trained and more experienced <br /> workforce, and in addition can assist such workers to meet the <br /> high cost of living here and thus to avoid the ¢ondit±on of <br /> despair and frustration often found in project areas as described <br /> in the CRL; and <br /> <br /> 88-07 <br /> <br /> <br />
