6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (CITY COUNCIL, REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY, AND <br />BOARD OF EQUALIZATION) <br />Leslie Todd read a letter of opposition to the use of recycled water in areas where <br />children play, such as front yards, parks and schools. <br />Maggie Heilman stated she is speaking on behalf of the parents and is a realtor for the <br />past seven years who has represented many of the folks regarding this issue. She <br />stated that as a realtor, if a sign cautioning against drinking or playing in recycled <br />water is necessary, it will have serious effect on the value of the property. She stated <br />that speaking as a parent and a realtor, she thinks it is a very bad idea to use recycled <br />water that children cannot drink. <br />Laura Bierwagon, M.D., stated that she is with the group and is a pediatrician opposed <br />to recycled water in areas that children will come in contact with due to health and <br />safety issues. <br />Mike Pacelli, representing the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce, announced the <br />new website at www.redwoodcitvchamber.com that has already received over 26,000 <br />hits in the month it has been in operation. He further stated the Annual Business <br />Forum and Showcase will be highlighting a presentation by PDI Dreamworks entitled, <br />the House that Shrek Built, on Thursday, October 2 beginning from 4 -7 p.m. <br />Dr. Jeff Filippi thanked Council and the City for their assistance in the July 4th <br />celebration and stated the plan in bringing the level back to the old days such as <br />including marching bands and other activities designed to provide an all day event. <br />Shawn White thanked the Council for the commitment to Redwood City and <br />particularly, PACT. He stated that not only did he obtain knowledge of various <br />programs and departments but that he actually was able to meet the employees <br />working in those departments and programs. He invited the community members to <br />apply for participation in PACT. <br />John Martin stated he lives near Stafford Park and has three young children. He <br />further stated his disbelief that the City is considering using treated raw sewage in our <br />parks. <br />Bill Anderson thanked the City departments for their assistance in the July 4` <br />celebration. He stated that PCA does not do any judging of the various categories that <br />receive awards and that is conducted with an outside association. The Parks and <br />Recreation Commission in conjunction with the Cultural Commission and CityTrees <br />entered a float in this year's parade. The combined entry from Parks and Recreation <br />won the Sally Morrison Grand Sweepstakes Award. <br />Rudy Luca congratulated new Fire Chief Kohlmann and reminded Council that he had <br />requested the City Manager consider a local person for the position.
