PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMIMENDATIONS: <br /> DENIAL APPLICATION P. McTEAGUE TO REZONE LOTS..12 AND 13, BLOCK 6, WOODACRE KNOLLS (ALAMEDA AND WOODSIDE <br /> ROAD) FROM R..3 TO C -1 -H. Councilman Spillers moved public hearing to be set for September 6, 1955, <br /> motion seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. <br /> DENIAL NAPPIE, GILBERT AND DAHLMAN TO REZONE LOTS 9, 10 AND 11, BLOCK 6, WOODACRE KNOLLS <br /> (WOODSIDE ROAD NEAR ALAMEDA) FROM R -3 TO C-1 -H. Councilman Spillers moved public hearing be set for <br /> III September 6, 1955, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br /> DENIAL APPLICATION FRANCIS HOPKINS TO REZONE S. W. CORNER OAK AND JOHNSON (1211 JOHNSON STREET) FROV R -2 <br /> TO R -3. Councilman Spillers moved date of hearing to August 29, seconded by Councilman Jones and <br /> carried. <br /> III DENIAL APPLICATION MARIA PEYRET TO RESUBDIVIDE LOTS 2, 3 AND L, BLOCK 49, CENTRAL PARK (2909 JEFFERSON), <br /> ALSO TO MOVE'.HOtJSE ON ONE OF NEW LOTS. Councilman Granger moved approval on the Planning Commission's <br /> recommendation, seconded by Councilman Jones, and carried. <br /> DENIAL ALLEN BROS. REQUEST FOR VARIANCE TO ALL W 5' REAR YARD AT 335 OAK ST. Mr. Alien appeared before the <br /> Council and submitted plans for the proposed building which he claimed were multiple dwellings and his <br /> request for variance was in accord with Ordinance No. 600 in his opinion. Mrs. Davis, adjoining prop- <br /> erty owner, objected to the 5' rear yard because of fire hazard. Mr. Gil Davis questioned the multiple <br /> dwelling angle and Mr. Louis Weiss also spoke on the matter stating his belief that inasmuch as there <br /> are two lots involved, the variance was not equitable, also stating that in his opinion a hardship had <br /> not been established. After further discussion, Councilman Stout moved approval that the Planning Com- <br /> 'mission make application to deny, approved and carried. <br /> APPROVAL REDUCE PUBLIC HEARINGS ON AMENDMENTS TO ZONING ORDINANCE FROM TWO TO ONE. Councilman Jones moved <br /> introduction of Ordinance, seconded by Councilman Spillers. <br /> Mr. Louis Weiss, representing the Peninsula Civic League, read a prepared written statement objecting <br /> to the reduction in public hearings before Planning Commission, it being his contention that many people <br /> appear at second hearings who were not aware of the first hearing. Mr. Weiss' report also favored the <br /> employment of a full time Planning Consultant. It was explained that there was not sufficient money in <br /> . the present budget to employ a full time man, however, provision had been made to increase the time of <br /> a part time consultant. <br /> Mrs. Vera Eskin also spoke protesting the reduction of public hearings from two to one. After further <br /> discussion, motion introducing Ordinance carried, on roll call. <br /> SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS, COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT HEADS. <br /> Councilman Royer was assured that the Canyon Road Sewer and Water project would be ready for bid in about three <br /> weeks. The plans are complete and the specifications are nearly complete. <br /> Councilman Granger called attention to the fact that the improved street lighting at Whipple Avenue and Staf- <br /> ford Street had not been installed to date. <br /> Councilman Granger requested that the City Manager check and bring in a recommendation regarding screening of <br /> bridge at Redwood Avenue and Hudson Street. <br /> Councilman Granger requested further check be made on traffic conditions on Massachusetts and Maddux Avenue. <br /> III Councilman Britschgi stated that he had been advised that the cities in Santa Clara County had petitioned <br /> their Board of Supervisors for the one -cent sales tax. The Councilman stated that in his opinion, he <br /> thought the time was right to secure a decision from our County Supervisors. Councilman Granger stated <br /> that in his opinion, the Board should be contacted and requested to give some consideration to the <br /> matter. Councilman Britschgi then moved that a letter be directed to the Board of Supervisors asking <br /> them to consider the sales tax in San Mateo County and reply as to their findings prior to the League <br /> of California Cities Convention which will convene September 18. Motion carried, Councilman Spillers <br />
