In his report, the City Attorney
stated that the deeds had been received from Mr. and Mr. Jerry Smith and Mr. and
Mrs. Perry Bygdnes covering the property desired by the City of Redwood City for
the widening of Canyon Road and Oak Knoll Drive. The agreed price for the
acquisition of the property on Canyon Road is the sum of $1,710.00 and that the
portion on Oak Knoll is to be deeded free.
Councilman Britschgi moved that the Clerk be authorized to accept the deed, second-
ed by Councilman Jones and carried. Councilman Britschgi authorized the payment of
$1,710.00 plus an additional sum as yet undetermined for payment of title fees which
will be charged to the appropriate gas tax project for the widening of Canyon Road,
seconded by Councilman Jones and carried.
FURTHER REPORT ON CONDITION OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC CROSSINGS. The Clerk read the letter
received from the Southern Pacific company in answer to the City Manager's letter
of September 7th in connection with the repair of various grade crossings and the
protective devices at the-Jefferson Avenue crossing. In their letter they asked
that the City be more specific in just what complaints have been received about
the operation of these protective devices, it would materially assist them in their
investigation.
At the request of the City Manager, the Traffic Fact Finding Committee is making
a survey of the protective devices at railroaad crossings, since information on
hand is now two years old, and they wish the answer to Southern Pacific to be
up -to -date and specific.
Councilman Granger stated that if they wanted to be specific, he wanted the bells
to ring when a train was at the crossing and to stop ringing when it was through the
crossing. He also stated that the Southern Pacific Company agreed some time ago
to take a man off the 'Jefferson and X'iaple Street crossing and put a man in the
tower to take care of both crossings. This has not proven to be satisfactory.
Councilman Britschgi stated that this should be turned over to the Southern Pacific
Committee for further study and report back to the Council next meeting. Council-
man Jones so moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. Councilman
Britschgi is the Chairman of the Committee.
CITY ENGINEER REPORT ON PROPOSED EXTENSION OF GENEVA AVENUE. City Engineer Jain stated
that he had nothing further to report except that it had been turned over tothe
City Attorney for further proceedings. Councilman Granger moved that this report
be made a part of the record, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. City
Attorney Currie explained that this will have to go through 1913 proceedings and
he explained how this act differed from the regular 1911 Act.
COMMUNICATION FROM SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT SPINAS REGARDING PROPOSED SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS.
In his letter, Mr. Spinas States that all the information he could gather indicates
that it is not legally possible for school districts to pay such cost.
