The City Clerk read the letter which was held over for the Wednesday <br /> nightstudy meeting. <br /> COMMUNICATION FROM THE COUNTY MANAGER REGARDING PRESENT STATUS OF THE SALES TAX SITUATION. <br /> The City Clerk read the letter in which it was stated that the San Mateo County <br /> Board of Supervisors have given no formal consideration to the possibility or <br /> advisability of adopting a sales tax in San Mateo County. They have requested that <br /> the City be informed that, after the v arious cities in the County have had an <br /> opportunity to consider the matter and a majority of them are in accord on a sales <br /> tax program, the County will then be pleased to meet with representatives from the <br /> 1 <br /> cities to discuss the matter in further detail. No action was taken on this <br /> communication. <br /> COMMUNICATION PENINSULA CIVIC LEAGUE PROPOSING AMENDMENT TO ORDINANCE NO. 600. In their <br /> letter they recommended the adoption of an amendment to Ordinance 600, as would <br /> provide that when an application for rezoning, resubdivision, variance or use permit <br /> has been denied twice within a period of two years or less, it should not again be <br /> given consideration for a given period of time, say from three to five years. <br /> Councilman Britschgi moved that this letter be referred to the Planning Commission. <br /> Mayor herkner stated that this was different from the original plan. Councilman <br /> Britschgi stated that the Planning Commission should make the recommendation, second- <br /> ed by Councilman Jones and carried. <br /> COMMUNICATION ±HOM THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY REGARDING PROPOSED EXTENSION OF FRANKLIN <br /> STREET. In their letter, the Southern Pacific Company stated that the President of <br /> Southern Pacific was absent on an inspection trip and that the matter would be <br /> brought to his attention at the first opportunity. Councilman Granger moved that <br /> the matter be carried on the agenda for 30 days, seconded by Councilman Jones and <br /> carried. <br /> COMMUNICATION FROM E. A. SUTHERLAND REGARDING FLY CONDITION NORTHEAST SECTION OF CITY. <br /> In his letter, Mr. Sutherland stated that the area northeast of Redwood City has <br /> had a concentration of flies and that the neighborhood has bried all sorts of fly <br /> sprays, baits, etc., all to no avail. He asked that the City do something to help <br /> correct the situation. This brought on a discussion in regard to the size of the <br /> fly and the conditions arising from them. It was decided that the City Clerk should <br /> acknowledge the letter and contact the Mosquito Abatement Committee, notify the man <br /> who wrote the letter and send a copy of the letter to Henry A.Beeger. <br /> USE PERMITS GRANTED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION: <br /> Helen Levine for rest home at 1235 Hopkins Avenue limited to ten well persons, and <br /> to use of main building only. <br /> C. A. Dovey for an electrical contracting shop at 150 Elm Street. <br /> 1 <br /> No Council action was taken on these permits. <br /> Claims 17316 through 17358, totaling 89,835.22 were ordered paid on motion of Councilman <br /> Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br /> Ccouncilman Granger moved that the Mayor send a telegram to the President of the United <br /> States wishing him a speedy recovery, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />
