There being no protests, written or oral, Councilman Britschgi moved close of public hearing,.seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. Councilman Britschgi offered RESOLUTION 1951.ESTABLISHING THE..OFFICIAL PLAN LINES FOR e FUTURE WIDENING. OF CANYON ROAD and moved its adoption, seconded by _Councilman Stout and carried_ on roll _call,. Councilman,Boyer being noted absent. Councilman Spillers moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare ordinance to rezone Lots 4, 5 and 6, Valota Park from R -1 to R -2, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. - CITY MANAGER REPORT REGARDING PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATION TO INSTALL SPRINKLER SYSTEM ON SECOND AVENUE AND BAY ROAD PROPERTY AND MAP SURVEY OF CIRCLE PARK. City Manager Rolison.stated that he.had.written.to the._Park and Recreation Commission and asked that.the.City Clerk. r.ead..the. letter. In. his. letter., the.City, Manager suggested that since there was no money appropriated. for these new.projects they be deferred for consideration in next year's. budget, which procedure. applies for - a11..City departments, in expanding their_se.rvices.. This.. is_ also essential.since there is not sufficient funds in this. year's Park.Department budget, and..the unbudgeted reserve is limited to provide for emergency purposes only. City Manger Rolison statedthat he had been handed a sketch of Circle Park showing the property available which could.be sent to the Park and Recreation Commission. Mayor Herkner asked if there was any money available for Second Avenue Park and how much would it cost.- The. City j "tanager stated that. they did.not state where they wanted the sprinkler system, however, there was apprximately a piece of ground 500' long and 100' in depth available and if the Council thinks...this_is essential he will proceed with the project. Councilman Granger was of the opinion._ that. an estimate should. be made and a report brought back at the next Counc.il.me.eti.ng. The City Manager.. stated. that the cost to the City for turfing, etc. of the San Francisco right -of -way which. was approximately 80' x 300' was about $1,400, which would be about half of the proposed area. The cost to fix the.entire area will be approximately $2,500. Councilman Granger.moved that. the. City Manager make a survey in regard to the cost of installing a sprinkler system in this area and report back at the next Council meeting. Gerry Verson spoke in favor of a park in the Second Avenue area. Councilman Royer seconded the motion. The area should be divided into two units and a study made of the ways and means to improve them. Councilman Stout could not see why the sprink- ler system should be put in at this time of year when it is too late t� put in a lawn. Councilman Granger stated that he was just interested in the sprinkler system and not the lawn at this time. He was of the opinion that this would be a good time because of the slack season in the Park Department. Motion carried. Councilman Stout moved that the City Manager bring in a report regarding turfing the park In two parts for the area, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
