6.2.A. - Page 1 <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Cou nci I <br /> From the City Manager <br /> May 23, 2011 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance - 2010-2011 Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair Project <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Accept, by motion, the work completed during Amendment One to the 2009-2010 <br /> Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair Project <br /> 2. Authorize the release of bonds and the retention according to city procedures <br /> BAC KG RO U N D <br /> On June 15, 2009, the City awarded a contract to SpenCon Construction, Inc. of <br /> Danville, CA in the amount of $712,920 for the 2009-2010 Tree Preservation and <br /> Sidewalk Replacement Project. (Minute Order 09-113). The City Council approved <br /> Final Acceptance of work done during the first year of the multiple year project on May <br /> 24, 2010. Contract language in the Agreement allowed for up to four consecutive one- <br /> year extensions with a maximum yearly increase of five percent. <br /> Amendment Number One to the Agreement was issued in the amount of $500,000.00 <br /> on July 26, 2010 with a 1.33 percent increase for each of the bid items (Minute Order <br /> 10-132). The work completed during Amendment One was in the area bounded by <br /> Alameda de Las Pulgas to the east, McGarvey Ave. to the south, Farm Hill Boulevard to <br /> the west and Jefferson Avenue to the north. <br /> Additional work was performed on Redwood Shores Parkway to repair the curb, gutter <br /> and roadway surface which was significantly damaged by tree roots. Specific streets <br /> which were worked on include Medford Avenue, Crompton Road, Chesterton Avenue, <br /> Edith Avenue, Dover Road and Devon Way. The work included installation of 34 ADA <br /> curb ramps at various intersections, construction of approximately 13,000 square feet of <br /> sidewalk, installation of 618 square feet of poured in place rubber sidewalk and along <br /> Redwood Shores Parkway, repair of 391 linear feet of roadway, curb and gutter. <br /> Staff is now requesting that the City Council approve Final Acceptance of the additional <br /> work completed pursuant to Amendment 1. Staff has inspected the work and finds that <br /> conforms with City standards. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> None. The contractor has performed their work to accepted industry standards and <br /> they are due their retention. <br />
