(0.ir -I
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
August 11, 2003
Subject
Agreement between Redwood City 2020 through its fiscal agent the City of Redwood
City and the Redwood City School District for Redwood City Early Learning and Family
Support Program and School Readiness Initiative
Recommendation
Authorize the City Manager to Execute the Agreement between Redwood City 2020,
through its fiscal agent the City of Redwood City, and the Redwood City School District
for Redwood City Early Learning and Family Support Program and School Readiness
Initiative for fiscal year 2003/2004.
Background
The City of Redwood City in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the
Sequoia Union High School District and the County of San Mateo formed Redwood City
2020 (RC 2020) in 1995. The partners have been jointly funding RC 2020 since 1995
and the City of Redwood City acts as the fiscal agent for the collaborative. The John W.
Gardner Center became a funding partner in 2002. Given that Redwood City is the
fiscal agent, this agreement will not impact City services.
Redwood City 2020 successfully applied for and is the recipient of funds from the First 5
San Mateo County through First 5 California, for the Redwood City Early Learning and
Family Support Program and School Readiness Initiatives. The purpose of these funds
is to implement family support, quality preschool services, and school readiness
activities, in partnership with the Redwood City School District's Family Center Services.
On April 14, 2003, City Council serving as the fiscal agent for RC 2020 approved the
receipt of these funds from First 5 San Mateo County.
Alternative
Council may choose not to authorize the City Manager to execute this agreement.
