She suggested that the residents replace much of their lush landscaping with drought resistant plants, replace all non playground lawns on City and County property with water friendly groundcover. Recycled water could then be used along freeways, road medians, landscaping next to the streets, complexes and banks, wetland restoration, cement industry for dust control and in golf courses. Tamara Piulle, Planning Commission speaking as a Redwood City resident, strongly supported the implementation of the recycled water project. At the Planning Commission hearing there was not as much opposition, but she has not changed her position. She stated that the City cannot stop development in Redwood City because of lack of water. She urged Council to vote for the project. Mark McLaren, Redwood Shores resident, stated that the documents on the website are outdated and painting a rosy economic picture of the project. He stated that the project relies on 100% acceptance of recycled water in all of the identified sites within Redwood Shores. He stated surprise that the economic analysis had not been revised based on the Council decision to make recycled water non - mandatory. He summarized that you can get where you need by other means, it will be more costly, there is a need to take a different look at it and the cost benefit analysis must be a serious part of the equation given what is already known. All of the companies contacted about the project indicated that they were comfortable with the safety of their employees in contact with recycled water. He stated that he is not a resident of Redwood City, he is a concerned and conscientious parent of a one year -old and they play in a park regularly that is irrigated with recycled water.
