�') a- I REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manaqer August 25, 2003 Subject Award of Contract — Redwood City Police Department Lobby Remodel Project Recommendation Approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for the Redwood City Police Department Lobby Remodel Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Coast Side Associates of Half Moon Bay, California, for their low bid of $58,100, and reject all other bids. Background The Redwood City Police Department's front counter desk and lobby area was initially designed and constructed for a single receptionist. In order to provide a higher level of customer service, the lobby area will be renovated, and a new counter (meeting ADA — height requirements, and providing additional work area) will be provided. — Five (5) bids for the above - referenced project were received on August 6, 2003, and are summarized below. The low bid of $58,100.00 was 46% above the Engineer's Estimate of $39,750. After reviewing the Engineer's Estimate, it became apparent that the anticipated cost of the required "Finishes" had been inadvertently omitted, and that cost was approximately $8,000. Furthermore, the cost of the benches was $8,400, not $3,400. These additional costs would have brought the Engineer's Estimate from $39,750 to $56,150. Based on the aforesaid, the bid is considered a fair and responsive bid. A complete copy of the agreement is available for review in the City Clerk's Office.
