8.41q <br />SEPTEMBER 19 FORUM TO FOCUS ON <br />WATERSHED MANAGEMENT <br />City officials and members of the community inter- <br />ested in improved watershed management policies are <br />encouraged to participate in a California Watershed <br />Forum on Friday Septen bar 19, 2003, from 9:00 -5:00 <br />p.m. in the CAL EPA Building in Sacramento. <br />The forum will gather watershed stakeholders from <br />around the state to a one -day meeting to discuss the <br />future of watershed management policy in California. <br />The forum will focus on new statewide watershed policy <br />and the formation of the California Watershed Council, a <br />new statewide advisory body. Watershed groups and <br />stakeholders will be able to learn about this important <br />policy shift in the agencies and how watershed groups <br />can provide productive comment to state policy. Its purpose is to <br />provide advice and recommendations to Cal /EPA and <br />the Resources Agency on the development of <br />California's watershed programs, and to serve as a <br />forum for problem solving. The Council will assist the <br />Agencies in the integration and coordination of water- <br />shed management to improve water quality, protect and <br />restore habitat and fisheries, reduce Flooding, control <br />erosion and sedimentation, and improve local water <br />supply reliability through better groundwater monitoring, <br />river corridor recreation, forestland and fuel manage- <br />ment, and hydropower management. <br />The Council will have an open membership - <br />individuals who are interested in participating are <br />welcome to join the Council and share their ideas and <br />information. The Council will be chaired by Mary <br />Nichols, Secretary for the Resources Agency, Winston <br />H.
