6.2.C. - Page 1 <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Cou nci I <br /> From the City Manager <br /> J u ne 13, 2011 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance — Fair Oaks Child Care Center Infant Play Area Renovation Project <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Accept, by motion, the Fair Oaks Child Care Center Infant Play Area Renovation Project <br /> and authorize the release of bonds and retention according to city procedures. <br /> BAC KG RO U N D <br /> On October 11, 2010, Council awarded the construction contract for the Fair Oaks Child <br /> Care Center Infant Play Area Renovation Pro�ect to Blossom Valley Construction of San <br /> Jose for the amount of $173,143.00. Renovation of the infant play area included <br /> replacing the concrete enclosed sand play area with resilient rubber surfacing, replacing <br /> the natural turf area with synthetic turf, widening the concrete area to allow for more <br /> space for children to ride tricycles, a new play structure, new storage sheds, and new <br /> seat wall area. <br /> The project was successfully completed in accordance with the plans and <br /> specifications. Four change orders were issued for a total of $9,087.08 or 5.2% of the <br /> original contract. The change order work included weekend work to perform the <br /> demolition so as not to disturb the operation of the infant care facility, removal and <br /> disposal of concrete footings and debris discovered when excavating, re-grading, and <br /> extension of a storm drain line to provide proper drainage. The contract allowed 60 <br /> days for project completion. Construction started on January 29, 2011, and substantial <br /> completion was achieved on March 31, 2011, which was within the time allowed by <br /> contract. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and <br /> retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract and prior Council action. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Sufficient funding for this project was previously appropriated from the Capital Pro�ects <br /> Fund— Play Equipment Replacement Program. <br />
