6.1.C. - Page 1
To the Honorable Mayor and City Cou nci I
From the City Manager
J u ne 20, 2011
SUBJECT
Amendment to the Agreement with Management Partners, Inc.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve and authorize the City Manager to amend the agreement between the City of
Redwood City (City), and Management Partners, Inc., (Partners).
BAC KG RO U N D
The City of Redwood City retained interim department head staff from Management
Partners, Inc., in December 2010 to assist the City in evaluating the operations in the
Building, Infrastructure and Transportation, and the Planning, Housing and Economic
Development departments. In January 2011, the interim staff inember from
Management Partners began that evaluation.
Staff reviewed the Management Partners findings, and the City Manager determined
that the two departments would be combined under one Community Development
Department, effective July 1, 2011. Following that determination, Council took action on
May 23, 2011 to amend the City's classification plan, consistent with the staffing needs
of the reorganization.
Recruitment for the Community Development Director has begun. In the interim, we will
need to retain department head staff from Management Partners, Inc., until the new
Director is hired. The new Director will be in place by August 1, 2011, therefore this
amendment encompasses the months of May, June, and July, at the cost of $13,000
per month.
ALTERNATIVES
The Council may elect not to authorize the City Manager to execute the amendment.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this agreement was not appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2010/11, but
savings from the reorganization in the department will cover these expenditures.
