The Redwood City Fire Department is currently requesting
approval to establish the classification of Deputy Fire Chief due to anticipated changes
in staff oversight and work load as a result of the Agreement to Provide Fire and
Emergency Services to the City of San Carlos. The Deputy Fire
Chief will plan, direct, supervise, and participate in the activities of one or more major
divisions, take command of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief, and other
related work as required. The Deputy Fire Chief will primarily serve as a liaison to the
City of San Carlos to manage fire operations. This will be a management position
represented by the Chief Officers Association. The proposed salary range was
determined through a salary survey completed in April, 2011, and set at $12,501 to
$14,621 per month.
ALTERNATIVES
Council could advise staff to make further evaluation and recommend alternative
organizational structure and classification changes.
