The projects will also encourage increased bike riding and walking in Redwood City and to
and from schools.
The City of Redwood City is working with the support of Sequoia Union High School District and the community
to improve the safety of bike routes, sidewalks, and pedestrian crossings. The following projects are planned
from the two grant applications:
Brewster Avenue Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements —TDA Article 3 or Measure A
• Installation of Class II bicycle lanes between Broadway and Elwood Street by converting the existing
four -lane configuration to three lanes plus bike lanes.
• Installation of new Class Ill bike route signage and sharrows between Elwood Street and Alameda de las
Pulgas to improve safety and accessibility.
• Installation of curb bulb -outs at existing crossings to improve pedestrian safety.
• Installation of new ADA- complaint curb ramps at intersections.
Hudson Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements— Measure A
• Installation of new Class III bike route signage and sharrows between Whipple Avenue and Woodside
Road to improve safety and accessibility.
• Installation of new bicycle detectors at traffic signals at Jefferson Avenue, Woodside Road.
• Installation of curb bulb -outs at existing crossings to improve pedestrian safety and access to several
nearby schools.
• Installation of new ADA- compliant curb ramps at intersections.
• Installation of new pedestrian signal indicators with countdown displays at the Jefferson Avenue traffic
signal.
Pedestrian and bicycle usage will be safer in the project areas, when the improvements of these two grants are
completed. This includes areas around a number of schools and on the routes to them. I encourage you and the
selection panel to give the City of Redwood City's applications for TDA Article 3 and Measure A Bicycle and
Pedestrian Program grants very strong consideration.
Respectfully,
James Lianides, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Cadmont Menlo- Atherton Redwood Sequoia , Woodside Adult School
