'� 1 ' � l f ■ ■ • �� April 19, 2004 y Honorable Mayor and Council Members: The Redwood City Council has before it an opportunity to make a change that will enhaz;�e the_lives of Redwood=�ity residents for years to come by accepting the grant &om the State Library Bond Act to build a library in Redwood Shores. We, as the Redwood City Library Foundation, strongly encourage the City Council to seize this opportunity and accept the awazd. The selection criteria for the gtant were highly competitive. The Redwood City Library -- was selected on behalf of the quality of the proposal, the tradirion of excellence of our ��- library, and the vision of what a Redwood Shores branch library would mean for the community. We wholeheartedly agree with the State's reasoning and aze delighted by the grant. We implore you, even in these challenging economic times, to share ow view of the future of our community and provide a library in Redwood Shores. The Library Foundarion, in support of the Redwood Shores library, is committed to raise the funds necessary to provide the 2007/2008 opening day collection. Tlus commitment is not undertaken lightly, but we are inspired by the challenge of ineeting our goal. We enjoy the support of the public and business communiries and aze confident that they will continue to stand with us. ,,.,., Our organization has a proven track record; we have raised over $300,000 for the Library to date and have supported such progams as the Teen Homework Center, Traveling Storytime, Dad & Me @ the Library, as well as providing for the general collection. We ask for your support in realizing the vision of a Redwood Shores library.
