Staff from Equipment Services and the Fire Department have
been working with Hi-Tech on the optional equipment which meets Redwood City's fire
truck standard.
Redwood City purchased its first Spartan Type I Fire Pumperfrom Hi-Tech in 2001, along
with ten (10) other agencies using the cooperative purchasing provision of the City of San
-.... Jose. More recently, Hi-Tech was the lowest responsible bidder for the City of Livermore's
hid in which the City of Livermore, Pleasanton, Santa Barbara and San Mateo County Fire
Department each purchased one.
Cooperative purchasing provisions make it possible for City's to realize significant savings
from larger volume purchases. The base unit price perthe City of Livermore's specification
is $381,430.07. With the deletion of add-on equipment, the total price per unit will be
$375,130.63.
Alternative
If approved, delivery of these fire pumpers will be staggered over the next eighteen (18)
months. The alternative of going out to bid could delay the initial delivery by an additional
six (6) months and would probably not result in any cost savings, since the bid was a
recent competitive bid process in which Hi-Tech was the lowest responsible bidder.
Fiscal Impact
Funds for the purchase of these replacement fire trucks were approved by the City Council
in the Fiscai Year 2003/04 Equipment Replacement Fund Budget in the amount of
$770,000.
 /

Lar arwacz Peter Ingram d verett
Public Works Superintendent Public Works ervices Director City Manager
Attachment: None
