Gardner Center for support of Redwood City 2020
for fiscal year 2003/2004
Background
The City of Redwood City, in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the
Sequoia Union High School District, and the County of San Mateo, formed Redwood
City 2020 (formerly known as Redwood City 2000) in 1995. The partners have been
jointly funding Redwood City 2020 (RC 2020) since 1995, and this agreement continues
that practice for another year. On June 9, 2003, the City Council approved Amendment
No.1 establishing the John W. Gardner Center as a funding partner.
~' Four partners, County of San Mateo, Redwood City School District, Sequoia Union High
School District, and the City of Redwood City have allocated $22,500 in their 2003/2004
budget to support RC 2020. John W. Gardner Center's contribution for that fiscal year
is $25,000. In addition, RC 2020 also receives $10,000 from Peninsula Partnership,
$548,036 from First 5 San Mateo County, and $78,000 from the Peninsula Community
Foundation. The City of Redwood City acts as the fiscal agent on behalf of Redwood
City 2020 to receive the funds from the funding partners.
Redwood City 2020 has achieved many accomplishments since its formation, including
these most recently:
1) Facilitated the development and funding of a Teen Resource and Wellness
Center at Sequoia High School,
2) Accessed funding to implement school readiness activities that benefit Hoover,
Garfield Charter, Adelante, Hawes, and Taft Schools,
3) Facilitated resources to create a synthetic turf field at Fair Oaks School,
4) Developed resources to support Parent Involvement and Leadership Program at
Taft, Fair Oaks, Hoover Schools and Kennedy Middle School,
5) Developed resources to support a youth development program at Hoover School.
.
~
