5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Jeff Filippi, representing the Peninsula Celebration Association, stated that the 65"' <br /> July 4�' parade and festival was a success and that there will continue to be changes <br /> over the next five years. He thanked the Pride and Beautification Committee for the <br /> assistance with set-up and stated that the PCA will begin tabulating how much <br /> money is yielded to the nonprofits and businesses. He further stated that Council <br /> Member Bain had participated on some of the original committees and was a grant <br /> writer for the Carrington Hall/Sequoia High School auditorium. <br /> . Bill Anderson, Parade and Foundation Board Chairman, stated that it was one of the <br /> best parades and entertainment with groups from inside and outside of Redwood <br /> City. He reiterated the tremendous support from the City and Kiwanis. He stated that <br /> the City Parks and Recreation Commission again took first place in the amateur built <br /> commercial/municipal category. Each year there is a theme that encompasses the <br /> parade and out of all of the entries, the Parks and Recreation Commission won that <br /> category as well. <br /> Eric Lam, speaking on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, announced that on July <br /> 14, 7:30 a.m. at 1695 Broadway the Chamber is hosting, "Good Moming Redwood <br /> City". He stated that the topics of discussion would be observations of the Peterson <br /> � trial, a Measure "A" update, Sequoia Hospital update and a Redwood City update. <br /> He further reiterated the Chamber's continued support of the Marina Shores Village <br /> project and stated that, speaking as an employer in a Chamber with hundreds of <br /> other employers in Redwood City, housing is desperately needed. <br /> Tim Ridner, Director of Development for Glenborough-Pauls, developers of Marina <br /> Shores Village. He stated that for those not aware, the project has undergone an <br /> extensive amount of scrutiny by City staff, the Planning Commission and City <br /> Council. He further stated that rather than getting involved in a constructive way, a <br /> last minute effort is moving forward to block the development of the project. He <br /> � stated that the group has been collecting signatures throughout the city to place the <br /> matter on the ballot for the voters to decide and that it is bad public policy to ask <br /> citizens to make complicated land use decisions. He stated that he does not object <br /> to the right of the group to refer the matter to the voters, but strongly objects to the <br /> methods being used presenting hatf truths and inaccurate statements.
