<br />January 26, 2004 <br />Subject <br />Joint Use Agreement between the Redwood City School District and the City of Redwood <br />City for use of School Facilities <br />Recommendation <br />It is recommended that Council, by motion, authorize the City Manager to enter into the <br />subject agreement with the Redwood City School District. <br />Background <br />The Redwood City School District has informed the City of their intention to apply for <br />funding under Education Code Section 17052 for the purpose of constructing multiuse <br />facilities on the McKinley and Roosevelt Campus and requested the City enter into a joint <br />use agreement for the new facilities to be built on these sites. <br />Currently, the City, particularly the Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Department, makes regular use of School facilities, however no joint use agreement is in <br />place. Some current City uses of District property include: space for seven after school <br />programs and open gym evenings at Hoover and Fair Oaks Schools. It should also be <br />noted that the School District also accesses space in City facilities for such things as <br />District wide meetings and an alternative student center at Fair Oaks Community Center. <br />Entering into this agreement would formalize the community use provisions at the <br />Roosevelt and McKinley site and allow the District to be considered for additional State <br />funding for the construction. <br />Alternative <br />The Council could recommend the City not enter into this agreement with the Redwood <br />City School District <br />Fiscal Impact <br />There is no fiscal impact to the City of Redwood City.
