.
.A,\
RE.PORT
TotheH()norable"'@YC:JtY~n~ic:ity Council
Frotn.theCounciISut)..Commiltee
~.
January 26, 2004
Subject
Redwood Shores Levee Access and Protecting/Enhancing Endangered Species Habitat
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve, and authorize the City Manager, to sign
the letter agreement amending the agreement dated March 27, 2003 with Mr. W.H.
Fawcett in a joint effort to open access to Redwood Shores Levees and to
enhance/expand endangered species habitat.
Background
Mr. Fawcett's letter (please see attached) explains both the background of the issue and
efforts so far. The Council sub-committee spoke with Mr. Fawcett and felt that what he is
attempting to do does not lend itself to specific task as originally discussed at the
December 1, 2003 Council meeting. Mr. Fawcett is working to build a collaboration to
support the opening of Redwood Shores Levees (with closed times based on hard science)
and expanding the habitat for endangered species at Bair Island.
Mr. Fawcett's progress will be formally monitored by the City Council sub-committee every
three months with reports back to the full City Council. This agreement can be terminated
at the Council's discretion at any time.
Fiscal Impact
Funds are available within GID 1-64 (General Improvement District). These funds have
been set aside to deal with the Redwood Shores Levees.
/"'" - . ~~
:~X<.l\' ~ t\
"-'- Rosanne ust .
Barbara Pierce
Vice Mayor Councilmember
Attachment
