5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamations: Honoring Reservists from the Redwood City Police Department <br /> who sErved our nation in Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, <br /> and Ope.�ation Iraqi Freedom — Carlos Bolanos, Chief of Police <br /> Police Chief Bolanos helped Mayor Ira present the proclamations. Mayor Ira read <br /> the proclamations honoring Redwood City reservists and thanked them on behalf <br /> of Council and the City. Keith Harper thanked the City, Council, and City Manager <br /> for supporting the troops. The audience held a standing ovation for the reservists. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Rudy Luca stated that he has lived in Redwood City since 1953 and that he is proud to <br /> be a resident. He inquired to Staff and Council as to what the additional $100,000 on <br /> topic 6.1.A. is, and whether union workers would be hired for the project noted in topic <br /> 6.1.B. <br /> The Mayor thanked him and asked City Manager Everett to address the questions. <br /> City Manager Everett noted that 6.1.A is a regular contract renewal for legal services <br /> for the Redevelopment Agency for the next year and that he was unable to comment <br /> on 6.1.B. at this time, but that the City would honor prevailing wages. <br /> Keith Daum presented a petition to the Council from residents of Scott Avenue <br /> requesting traffic calming measures on their street. The Mayor inquired if Mr. Daum <br /> had spoken with Rich Haygood, City Traffic Engineer, and Mr. Daum noted that he <br /> had. Mayor Ira directed the topic to City Manager Everett so that the additional <br /> measures requested could be referred to City Staff. <br /> Housing & Economic Development Manager Susan Moeller invited the Public to <br /> attend the first in a series of ineetings about the Downtown Precise Plan, to be held at <br /> Forrester's Hall on Middlefield on Thursday, May 27 at 6 p.m. She stated that the <br /> first meeting would surround the topic of "Community Character" and would be led by <br /> Michael Freedman of Freedman, Tung, and Bottomley. <br /> Council Member Howard announced that the Fair Oaks Community Center was <br /> celebrating its 30 anniversary from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27 at the <br /> center located on Middlefield Road. <br /> M/S Hartnett/Foust to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances <br /> by title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items.
