' (P.I ~I <br /> " ",- <br /> , . <br /> T otheH onorable,~MaYôran.dCity Council <br /> From the CityNlänager <br /> June 14,2004 <br /> Subject <br /> Peninsula Celebration Association's 65th annual Fourth of July Celebration, 2004 <br /> Recommendation <br /> The City Council authorize execution of a letter permit for the Fourth of July Celebration <br /> sponsored by the Peninsula Celebration Association. <br /> Background <br /> The Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA) has requested permission to conduct the annual <br /> Fourth of July Celebration. The traditional parade, arts & crafts fair and festival will be held <br /> beginning Sunday, July 4, 2004, in the downtown area of Redwood City. A fireworks display <br /> will be held during the evening at the Port of Redwood City. <br /> On July 4th, the parade line-up area will be reserved from 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the <br /> parade route will be reserved from 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The arts and crafts fair and <br /> festival will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 4th. The fireworks <br /> display shall take place on July 4th and will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. <br /> The parade will start at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday July 4th and will be conducted in the areas <br /> detailed on the attached map provided by the PCA in their letter dated April 30, 2003. The fair <br /> and festival will be conducted on Jefferson Avenue from Veterans Boulevard to Marshall <br /> Street, and Bradford Street from Main Street to Middlefield Road. Minor alterations to the <br /> parade route and festival area may be required should roadwork in the established parade and <br /> festival area not be completed to facilitate these events as planned. In this event, any change <br /> to the parade route and festival area locations will be determined under the supervision and <br /> approval of the Police Chief or his designee. <br /> The fireworks display will be conducted at the Port of Redwood City, with street closures and <br /> traffic control measures to be determined by the Police Department to regulate the orderly flow <br /> of vehicle traffic. <br /> The City agrees to provide the following services and facilities: street sweepers, barricades, <br /> bleacher delivery, installation offlags along the parade route, use of a 1-1/2 inch fire hydrant <br /> for an antique fire truck demonstration, use of the parking structure on Marshall Street on July <br /> 4th, Media Parking lot on Main Street, and use of the Hamilton Street parking lot along Winslow <br /> Street for handicap and vendor parking, closure of Hamilton Street from Broadway to the <br /> entrance of the Hamilton Street parking lot from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2004 to 8:00 <br /> p.m. on Sunday, July 4th, 2004. <br /> The letter permit contains standard "hold harmless" insurance and course control provisions. <br /> . <br />
