Sponsorship of Montalvo events in Redwood City to help Downtown businesses <br /> — Redevelopment Agency <br /> Mayor Ira recused himself from this item due to a conflict of interest. <br /> Downtown Development Coordinator Zack explained the sponsorship proposal. <br /> Bruce Labodie, representing Montalvo, stated Montalvo is committed to providing <br /> quality concerts of interest to the community and help to develop audiences and <br /> build business in Redwood City. He stated that the sponsorship is only for the <br /> 2005 season to assist in breaking even until the downtown streetscape and <br /> retail/cinema complex is completed. He further stated that the plan includes <br /> promotion of the restaurants through their website, posters, advertisements and <br /> other partnership programs. � <br /> Bob Lo Presto, Trustee of Montalvo, stated Montalvo's pleasure in the <br /> relationship and alliance with Redwood City. He praised the aggressiveness and <br /> great vision in making the city a great one on the Peninsula. <br /> David Stanley, associated with Montalvo for eight years, stated that in addition to <br /> promoting concerts, they are educating people in the arts tuming the money <br /> around into the community. He stated that each year, 12,000-15,000 school <br /> children are provided with opportunities to experience various forms of art <br /> through Montalvo. He further stated that Montalvo needs the assistance at this <br /> time and the hope is that in working with the community and the school district, <br /> other programs such as bringing the performers before or after events into <br /> schools will be possible. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> M/S Foust/Hartnett to approve a sponsorship of $50,000 to Montalvo to support <br /> 25 shows in Downtown Redwood City for the 2005 Season and authorize the <br /> Redevelopment Director to execute any agreements necessary.
