.��� <br /> 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Ci Mana er <br /> October 25, 2004 <br /> Subject <br /> Approval of Surface Transportation Program (STP) Application for resurFacing certain <br /> designated streets in the City of Redwood City. <br /> Recommendation <br /> Adopt a Resolution of Local Support approving the Application for STP funding for the <br /> resurfacing of Whipple Avenue from Veterans Boulevard to EI Camino Real; Industrial Way <br /> from Whipple Avenue to the City limit, and Alameda de las Pulgas from Eaton Avenue to De <br /> Anza Avenue. <br /> Background � <br /> The City of Redwood City is eligible to apply for STP Augmentation from the Metropolitan <br /> Transportation Commission (MTC) for Pavement Maintenance and Rehabilitation of roads <br /> in the Metropolitan Transportation System (MTS). With requests for funds, the MTC <br /> requires that a Resolution approving the Application must be adopted by the City Council, <br /> and filed by December 1, 2004. The City/County Association of Govemments (C/CAG) will <br /> be the first to review the application. Then MTC will evaluate all applications submitted from <br /> the different counties within our District. Funds will be made available October 1, 2005. <br /> Based on the Pavement Management Program, staff recommends the resurfacing of the <br /> above-mentioned streets. These eligible streets are on the MTS Routes, and are awaiting <br /> the STP grant funds to become available for the resurfacing. <br /> Alternative <br /> Do not approve the Application for the STP grant funds, which will leave the subject streets <br /> in poor repair due to lack of funds. <br /> Fiscal Impact <br /> The City's cost estimate for the abovementioned streets is $450,000. The City' is eligible <br /> for $365,000 of STP grant funds. <br /> If the grant is received, funds for the resurfacing could be accommodated in a Capital <br /> Improvement Program budget through gas t u ds (Transportation Fund and Gas Tax <br /> Fund).
