6.1 E <br /> Page 1 <br /> �L.��/ 1 I <br /> Te El�e Hanorabl�e IV��i��r anc� C��y Ct�u��il <br /> F�om the ��i� I�a�a��er <br /> October 9, 2006 <br /> Subject <br /> Revocable encroachment permit at Courthouse Square. <br /> Recommendation <br /> By motion, grant a revacable encroachrrzent permit to the County of San Mateo History <br /> Museum far the installafiion �f a heating/cooling condenser subject to the terms and <br /> conditians as outlined in the revocabfe permit. <br /> Background <br /> On May 3, 2005,the City of Redwood City entered infio a Cooperative Agreement with the <br /> County of San Mateo which granted an exclusive easement to the City for purposes of <br /> removing the So�th Annex, reconsti-ucting the Cou�thouse Fa�ade and creating and <br /> maintaining Courthouse Square ("Cooperative Agreement between the County of San <br /> Mateo and the City of Redwood City far the Preservation of the Historic Counry Courthouse <br /> Block, Removal of the South Annex, Reconstruction of the Courthouse Fa�ade and <br /> Creation of a Courthouse Plaza, and Grant of Easement and l.icense"). The easement is <br /> approx'srnately.65 acres and is bounded by Braadway, Hamilton, and Middlefield Streets, <br /> as well as the exteriors of the existing North Annex building and County Courthouse <br /> building. The Cooperative Agreement authorizes the City fio manage, operate, maintain, <br /> and repair the easement area far 55-years with 4 ten-year renewals. <br /> The San Mateo County Hisfory Museum submitted a requesf on August 15,2006 to install <br /> a heating / cooling condenser unit within the Cify's easement to sefvice a new children's <br /> learnir�g center in the basement of the Courthause building. The proposed equipment and <br /> associated fixtures consist of an outdoor 38"x 38"x 40°height condenser unit placed on a <br /> 48"x 48" x 2" height concrete pad at grade, and a 5'x 6"concrete base far the condenser <br /> unit refrigerant pipe support near the southeast section o#the Courthouse. The area of <br /> encroachment proposed to accammodate the equipment is approximately 39 square feet. <br /> The condenser and its fixtures will be painted to match the Courthouse building. The <br /> Museum wili screen the condenser per City approva(or provide funding to the City for this <br /> purpose and the City wiEl screen the condenser at the cost of additional staff time. <br /> The San Mateo County History Museum is responsible for afl construc#ion, maintenance, <br /> removai, and replacement costs for this encroachment. The fixtures will be connected to <br /> the interior of the County Courthouse power supply and will not be supplied by City tunded <br /> power sources.
