��i�-� - REPORT � To the Honorabte Ma��or and City Council •_ Fron� the Ci Mana er October 13, 2003 Subject Award of Contract — Redwood Shores Sewer Pump Stations #1 and #3 Improvement Project Recommendation Approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for the Redwood Shores Sewer Pump Stations #1 and #3 Improvement Project, to the lowest responsible bidder, McGuire and Hester, Inc. of Oaktand, California, for their low bid of $629,250. Background On June 2, 2003, Council rejected all 10 bids that were received for this project as recommended by staff. The rejection recommendation was based on an error in filling out the bid proposal which was made by one of the lower bidders. Because of the error, the final bid price could not be determined. Due to the potential liability (if the project was awarded), it was decided that the project should be readvertised. The project was readvertised on June 17, 2003. These two sewer pump stations are part of the sewer pumping system in Redwood Shores (RWS). The RWS Peninsula has a flat terrain that requires sewerage to be pumped through a series of pump stations to get to the treatment plant at the end of the Peninsula. These two stations were among the first to b� built, and have served out their useful life. The rehabilitation will bring both pump stations up to standard. The bid opening was held on July 9, 2003, in the office of the City Engineer. A total of four (4) bids were received, which are summarized below. No• Bidder Bid Amount � ! 1.
