Recommendation: <br /> Information-only. No Council Action is requested at this time. <br /> 7. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. Legislation (information only) - This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br /> City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of Califomia <br /> Cities Priority Focus Bulletin No. 43-2004 and No. 44-2004. Council may direct <br /> staff to act on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities <br /> Priority Focus available in City Clerk's Department) <br /> B. Recognition of Outgoing Council Member Ira Ruskin <br /> Council Members gave acknowledgements and extended congratulations to <br /> Council Member Ruskin upon his departure to serve as California State <br /> Assembly Member of District 21. <br /> Mayor Ira recognized Council Member Ruskin for his years of senrice to <br /> Redwood City and presented him with a proclamation and plaque. Council <br /> Members presented him with a gift. <br /> Council Member Ruskin thanked the Council, community and his wife. He stated <br /> that he feels very honored and blessed to have served the great people of <br /> Redwood City. He further stated that it has been rewarding to see the city grow <br /> and change knowing that he helped in that process and he will take that with him. <br /> Upon his leaving, his advice to Council would be to remember precisely where <br /> Council has cut budget, shave services and reduce funding during the last few <br /> years due to the economic downturn and other reasons. He asked that those cuts <br /> be remembered and that the City gets returned to the old levels of service as <br /> soon as possible because the people of Redwood City deserve the very best. He <br /> stated that he would do his very best for the city and the entire district as the <br /> Assembly Member in Sacramento. He thanked all for the trust, friendship and <br /> confidence placed in him. <br /> C. Mayor Ira — thanked John Adams of Wells Fargo Bank and Barry Gillette from <br /> the San Mateo Credit Union for the generous donations toward the reception for <br /> Council Member Ruskin. <br /> 8.
