 i _
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
December 6, 2004
Subject
Agreement for After School Program Services between the City of Redwood City and the
Redwood City School District
Recommendation
Authorize the City Manager, by motion, to execute the subject agreement.
Background
Your Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department operates After School
Learning Centers at seven school sites in Redwood City and the North Fair Oaks Area in
partnership with the Redwood City School District. Services include after school tutoring,
recreation and enrichment programming, life skills education and family education
opportunities. Programs have been well received and evaluations indicate improved
academic achievement for participating students.
This agreement is the first of two that will be brought to Council in connection with these
programs. The terms of this first agreement allow us to, in our role of Fiscal Agent, use
State grant funds to pay the Redwood City School District for the teachers and teacher
aides that work in the After School programs. At a later date a similar agreement will be
brought for your approval that allows the School District to reimburse the Department for
after school program expenses where the District is the Fiscal Agent for the grant.
Alternative
Council may choose not to enter into this agreement.
Fiscal Impact
The funding for the After School Programs is provided by the Safe Before and After School
State Grant.
7 j
,. , ,
` ; .,
Chris Beth Corinne Cen eno Ed Everett
Superintendent Director, Parks, Recreation and City Manager
Community Services
Attachment
Subject Agreement
