Redwood City Recycled Water Project - Production and Delivery of Recycled <br /> Water <br /> Public Works Services Director Ingram gave a presentation to bring Council up <br /> to date on activities since the last meeting on the topic. <br /> Council Members asked various questions of staff. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> M/S Howard/Ruskin to: <br /> 1. Approve engineering plans and specifications titled Redwood City Recycled <br /> Water Project, Phase 1, Plans for the construction of SBSA Facilities Project <br /> - Disinfection, Storage, and Pumping <br /> 2. Request that the SBSA Commission approve aforementioned plans and <br /> specifications and authorize the call for bids, pursuant to the recently- <br /> approved Agreement for Production and Delivery of Recycled Water <br /> ("Agreement" between the South Bayside System Authority and the City of <br /> Redwood City <br /> The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote. MINUTE ORDER 04-200 <br /> 7. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. Legislation (information only) . This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br /> City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California <br /> Cities Priority Focus Bulletin No. 39-2004 and No. 40-2004. Council may direct <br /> staff to act on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities <br /> Priority Focus available in City Clerk's Department). <br /> B. Follow-up Information Concerning Cryptosporidium in Recycled Water <br /> Public Works Services Director Ingram stated that the learning, technology and <br /> emphasis on cryptosporidium monitoring and testing continues to be related to <br /> drinking water which would not apply to recycled water in Redwood City. <br /> Public Comment: <br /> Dave Valkanaar, retired Foster City Engineer and District Engineer, commended <br /> the design of the facility plan. He urged for consideration that there would be <br /> puddling of recycled water with likely lapping up by dogs and cats with possible <br /> passage of cryptosporidium bacteria onto children in the household. Although <br /> not a requirement of Title 22 for recycled water, he urged consideration of testing <br /> the recycled water for cryptosporidium and giardia and a plan to deal with it if <br /> detected. <br /> Chet Yee, former Recycled Water Committee Member, agreed with the previous <br /> speaker that cryptosporidium is something to be sensitized to.
