Accept by motion the recommendation by the Commission to name the area
known as 49er Field to the Frank Guida -49er Field in honor of his more than 45
years of volunteer coaching of young people in Redwood City.
MINUTE ORDER 11 -006
Mr. Chris Beth, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director, shared memories
on the legacy of Frank Guida and his work with children and families at the field at Red
Morton park and starting the Pop Warner Football League in 1958 with the Redwood
City 49ers. Mr. Beth acknowledged the presence of three children of Mr. Guida and
members involved in Pop Warner.
M/S Foust/Pierce to approve the motion. Motion carried 7 -0 by electronic vote.
B. Proclamation: Rename 49er Field at Red Morton Park in honor of
Frank Guida — Chris Beth, Parks, Recreation, and
Community Services Director
Mayor Ira and Council Member Foust presented the proclamation to the family and Pop
Warner members.
Dr. Bell said that a Council subcommittee will work on a future naming policy regarding
public facilities and it will be brought back for Council consideration. Mayor Ira thanked
Council Member Pierce for leading this process and said that future requests will be
subject to the future naming policy.
6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR
Clem Maloney said he works for Lyngso Garden Materials and he was pleased to learn
that there will be recharging stations in the City for electric cars. He spoke in favor of
this as good energy management and is researching the purchase of an electric car.
Mayor noted that no City funds are being used for these recharging stations.
Mike Bautisa, with time ceded to him from Michelle Bautista, spoke about his
experience regarding two appeals he has made against the City. He questioned the
fairness of the appeal process, opined there have been lies and misrepresentation by
staff, and stated various reasons why he is unhappy with what had occurred. He also
stated his thoughts and opinions on why the former City Manager had left.
Mayor Ira stated for record that the departure of the former City Manager had nothing to
do with the comments made by Mr. Bautista.
Foster Kinney, a graduate of the City's PACT (Partnership Academy for Community
Teamwork) program, spoke about the downtown Precise Plan and making the City the
center of activity for the San Francisco Peninsula. He proposed the creation of a New
Year's Eve ball drop at courthouse square as an opportunity for all to celebrate a west
coast version of the New York ball drop.
Mayor Ira acknowledged the suggestion and noted that Mr. Beth, Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Director, appears to already be thinking about it.
Mayor noted a correction to item 6.2A with the correct figure being $66,009 not $66,067
as previously reported. M/S Bain /Gee to approve the Consent Calendar.
Motion carried 7 -0 by electronic vote.
JOINT CITY COUNCIL/REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD January 24, 2011
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 2
MINUTE BOOK NO. 63
Page No. 257
