Mr. Pettersson thanked the City Council for this opportunity as well as their staff that <br /> made this possible. He introduced the Director of Peapod academy, Mr. Lomeli who <br /> explained that this is a media and arts academy housed under the Boys and Girls Club <br /> in Redwood City. He mentioned a recent trip to Washington and a recent performance <br /> at Harvard University. The video (presentation on file) was shown and all those present <br /> enjoyed and applauded it. Council and the audience offered a standing ovation to the <br /> five youth for the accomplishment of producing such an inspirational video. <br /> B. Proclamation - Recognizing DreamWorks As Being Named One of <br /> FORTUNE Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" Gail Currey (Head <br /> of Studio, PDI/Dreamworks) and Jodi DiCenzo (Head of Production HR, <br /> PDI/Dreamworks) <br /> Mayor Ira congratulated DreamWorks representatives for the great honor of being <br /> ranked #6 by Fortune Magazine Top 100 Best Companies to work for. Ms. Currey <br /> explained that they started with 400 employees and instead of layoffs they now have <br /> 600 employees and 120 live in Redwood City. Kung Fu Panda (Po) made a surprise <br /> appearance generating much joy and excitement. The Council thanked DreamWorks <br /> for its presence in the community and for its valuable contributions. <br /> C. Proclamation - Red Cross Month - Clara Mun�ey, American Red Cross <br /> Leadership Council <br /> Ms. Munley thanked Mayor Ira for the proclamation. She provided statistics on what the <br /> American Red Cross does to save lives. Ms. Munley mentioned an upcoming free CPR <br /> class, and additional information is at www.redcrossbayarea.orq. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Report out from Closed Session <br /> Interim City Manager Bell reported out from Closed Session on a few items. The first item <br /> was related to the Redwood Shores sewer spill and how the City Council approved paying <br /> the fine of $95,600.00 to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board. <br /> The second related to entering into a purchase agreement for pocktown on Maple Street <br /> on a vote of 6-1 with Council Member Foust opposing. Dr. Bell explained that this will <br /> enable staff to enter into a purchase agreement to initiate a due diligence period and to <br /> possibly utilize Redevelopment and Housing funds for such purchase. Dr. Bell provided <br /> reasons why this might be a timely decision. <br /> Council Member Pierce noted that a number of the actions tonight are being taken in <br /> hopes of preserving the Redevelopment funds to improve our community. <br /> Andrew Young, with time ceded by Linda McDaniel, spoke about promoting math and <br /> science through a "Parade of Planes" from San Carlos Airport to Sandpiper Elementary <br /> School (additional information on file). He acknowledged collaborators and partners that <br /> included the School District, a Pilot's association and the Redwood Shores Neighborhood <br /> Association. He said this program would make a unique learning opportunity for the <br /> children.
