Veterans Memorial Senior Center Adaptive Physical Education (P.E.) <br /> Program Video — Chris Beth, Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br /> Director. <br /> Chris Beth explained that he has enjoyed working with Ms. Hipkins on issues <br /> related to nutrition. He then introduced the video and he thanked Barbara <br /> McCarthy and Bruce Utecht for their efforts to make this happen. <br /> Item 5. D was addressed prior to item 5. C. <br /> D. Proclamation — March is National Nutrition Month — Manu Hipkins, Founder, <br /> Well Kiddos. <br /> Ms. Hipkins received the proclamation and thanked the Council for giving <br /> relevance to this important topic. She expanded on the Well Kiddos' mission. <br /> 5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Mayor Ira announced that he met with representatives from the Union Groups and he <br /> expanded on the nature of those talks and the need for concessions to avoid cuts and <br /> lay -offs. He announced that the POA (Police Officers Association) and PSA (Police <br /> Sergeants Association) have come up with what is required to step up and deliver a <br /> contract and concession packet that makes the entire Council proud. Mayor Ira <br /> personally thanked Paul Sheffield and Mike Reynolds for their hard work. <br /> Mike Reynolds, on behalf of the Redwood City POA (Police Officers Association) and <br /> the PSA (Police Sergeants Association), expressed their pride in being able to meet <br /> their budget concession goals, both short and long -term during the budget crisis. He <br /> said they worked hard on it with the Interim City Manager and they wish to be the only <br /> law enforcement model for Redwood City. <br /> Interim City Manager Bell thanked the two leaders of these labor unions who worked <br /> with him and Interim Police Chief Hernandez. <br /> City Attorney Thompson reported out from the Closed Session stating that one item was <br /> not finalized and it will be continued after the regular meeting. <br /> Janet Borgens announced that there will be an outdoor festival on April 9 at the Fair <br /> Oaks Branch Library at 2510 Middlefield Road. She invited the public to attend to raise <br /> funds for children's books for the Library and to enjoy the festival, which includes prizes <br /> for children, games, music and ballet folkloric. <br /> Mike Bautista, with time ceded from Michelle Bautista, addressed Council regarding his <br /> dissatisfaction with City staff and Council pertaining to his two appeals (presentation on <br /> file). He questioned the fairness, honesty, underlying democratic foundation, and <br /> governance pertaining to the appeal process. He made allegations about the lack of <br /> process and prior comments made by the City Attorney. <br /> Rich Del Ben said he is a voter, resident, and 44 -year employee of the City of Redwood <br /> City and he has dedicated his life to serve, often on call for 24 -hours at a time, and he is <br /> proud of this.
