07/11/2011 <br /> Attachment A <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AMENDING <br /> SECTION 32.75 OF THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL CODE TO <br /> INCREASE THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX ON RENT CHARGED <br /> TO HOTEL GUESTS FROM TEN PERCENT (10 %) TO TWELVE <br /> PERCENT (12 %) <br /> The People of the City of Redwood City Ordain as follows: <br /> Section 1. Section 32.75 of the Redwood City Municipal Code is hereby <br /> amended to reads as follows: <br /> SECTION 32.75. IMPOSITION; AMOUNT; WHERE PAYABLE <br /> For the privilege of occupancy in any hotel, each transient is subject to and shall <br /> pay a tax in the amount of twelve percent (12 %) of the rent charged by the <br /> operator. Said tax constitutes a debt owed by the transient to the City which is <br /> extinguished only by payment to the operator or to the City. The transient shall <br /> pay the tax to the operator of the hotel at the time the rent is paid. If the rent is <br /> paid in installments, a proportionate share of the tax shall be paid with each <br /> installment. The unpaid tax shall be due upon the transient's ceasing to occupy <br /> space in the hotel. If for any reason the tax due is not paid to the operator of the <br /> hotel, the tax administrator may require that such tax shall be paid directly to the <br /> tax administrator. <br /> Section 2. Approval General Municipal Election; Effective Date. <br /> This ordinance amending Section 32.75 of Chapter 32 of the Redwood City <br /> Municipal Code shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after the date on which the <br /> City Council has approved the canvass of votes and declared that the voters of the City <br /> of Redwood City have approved said ordinance by a vote of no Tess than a majority of <br /> the votes cast by the electors voting on the tax measure set forth in this ordinance at the <br /> general municipal election to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. The effective <br /> date for purposes of levying the increased tax shall be January 1, 2012. <br /> Section 3.
